Crane Ship Passes Alcatraz

The cranes float past Alcatraz Island

On the 24th of October, 2000, I got on my bike and went looking for cranes.
I wasn't disappointed.  This was the day the ship carrying four giant cranes from China was scheduled to arrive at the Golden Gate.  Actually, it was due to a weather-related delay that I wasn't disappointed.  The cranes had originally been scheduled to pass under the Golden Gate Bridge around 5:30 am.  But I was able to catch them at a much more convenient time in the late afternoon...and in the daylight.

Before reaching Alcatraz, the cranes slowly -- very slowly -- approached
the Golden Gate from the west.  And I was ready for them...
