By this point I was as close as I could get to the middle of the span.
The cranes
didn't collide with the Golden Gate Bridge after all. They
did, however, come within 8-12 feet of it.
But
that was nothing compared to how close they got to the other bridge, the
Bay Bridge, when they floated under it the next day, after waiting
near Treasure Island for the next low tide. The clearance that time
was only about 25 inches!!!
Who
was riding at the top then?! Not me!
