The tower was built as a tribute to Lillie Hitchcock Coit, who was a great admirer of
San Francisco's firefigthters.  There has been talk regarding the tower's resemblence to a firehose nozzle,
but it is probably nothing more than talk.

Speaking of Hitchcock, a famous scene in Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo took place at Fort Point...
Mel Brooks' hilarious High Anxiety also made good use of that location.
