Day of the Cranes

October 2000

Colorful View
Two Ships Passing

These photos were taken from just south of the Golden Gate Bridge.

The gray ship has just passed under the bridge on its way out to sea.
Speaking of gray, there wasn't a lot of sun to illuminate this event.  The closer the cranes got
to the bridge, the darker the day seemed to get.

Look closely at the crane ship and you'll see how low above the water the main deck was.
It is my understanding that the main deck could even have been submerged if necessary
to allow the cranes to clear the two bridges safely.
