Because the ship made a rather sharp turn as it approached the bridge, it was hard to know exactly where the tops of the cranes would pass under the bridge. The obvious thing was to choose the highest point of the bridge's underside, which would probably be the middle. I took this photo before I rode further to the middle of the bridge, where I had to squeeze in among many other onlookers, most of whom also rode their bicycles to get there.
Indeed, it was something
of a strange and exciting experience to see this humongous metal monster
as it crept slowly under the bridge that has become such a familiar sight over the years.
So, what is that on top of the third crane??
